Following the death of her mother, Elizabeth Richmond lives with her severely practical Aunt Morgen and works at a museum nearby where her colleagues seem barely aware of her existence. When she behaves in a bizarre and uncharacteristic manner at a party, she is referred to a psychiatrist, Dr. Wright, who meets multiple versions of Elizabeth, each with her own distinct and increasingly unhinged personality.
As Elizabeth and her various alter egos vie for control, Dr. Wright struggles to bring her back from the madness which threatens all who are close to her.
