THE PEOPLE OF PEPPER STREET

THE NORTH SIDE

Mr. and Mrs. Desmond, Johnnie and Caroline - The aristocracy of the neighborhood. They owned the largest and nicest house.

Mrs. Mack - Every night she read the Bible to George, the dog, who sat and watched her patiently.

Mr. and Mrs. Byrne, Pat and Mary - Mary helped Beverly Terrace spend the money she always happened to have.

Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, Art and Jamie - Mr. Roberts seemed to want to get away from his house. He walked down Pepper Street at night.

Mr. and Mrs. Perlman, Marilyn - The girls on the street gave Marilyn her first lesson in prejudice.

THE SOUTH SIDE

Mr. and Mrs. Merriam, Harriet - A packet of love letters and a schoolgirl friendship caused trouble in this family.

Miss Fielding - She sat, day after day, with her cat in her lap, and a few of the neighbors came to call.

"The House for Rent" - First the Williams, then the Terrils lived here, but somehow no really nice people ever moved in.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald, James, Tod, and Virginia - Tod Donald lived in a world of his own, and when the time came, never really understood what had happened.

Mrs. and Mrs. Ransom-Jones - Her sister, Lillian, lived with them, putting an added strain on family relationship.

And around the corner on Cortez Street...

Mr. and Mrs. Martin, George and Hallie - A stolid family who lived where they had to, and held on to what they had.
